Accountability from Ken Lundin

Holding People Accountable the Best Way Possible

There are three basic guidelines to follow if you are going to hold your team’s associates accountable to anything.

#1 Clearly define the desired results:
You can’t score a goal if you can’t see the goal line.  People easily confuse work with results. Clearly define desired outcomes by specifically stating goals

#2 Determine a Mutually Agreeable Time for Progress Reports:
When we follow up on people we lift some responsibility form their shoulders.  As a leader you need to encourage people to suggest timing of progress reports.  These reports can be used to influence their progress towards results.  When they succeed everyone wins.

                        #3 Deliver Praise or Coaching:
This step is the perfect opportunity to praise people for progress made and results achieved.  It is also the moment for coaching when results are falling below expectations.
