National Gardening Week at Hoosier Village

Here at Hoosier Village we wanted to find a neat way to celebrate national gardening week. So, on Friday April 8th we arranged for some of our residents to come down to a special informational gardening speech. Along with that we also started our NEW TOWER GARDEN!!! The aeroponic tower gardens are the future of gardening. They grow with absolutely NO DIRT and very little maintenance!!!

We started our Presentation by laying out all of the things that we would need for our garden, including the tower tonics. They will add nutrients to our plants, the tonic is the main reason why we don't need soil. We also had all of our seeds laid out and ready to go.
After we were done with the informational side of the presentation, we then started to plant our seeds. Our residents were so excited about the garden and the fact that they helped plant it. We also took small "post its," and labeled all of the plants so we would know what and where we planted.  Some of the residents even put their name and the date so that they could come back and quickly identify the plants that they planted and keep track of their progress.

When we start to harvest, all of the foods on the tower we will use them in everyday operation. we planted things that we commonly use so that no plant will go to waste. We planted Parsley, Basil, all types of herbs, also gourmet lettuces, beef steak tomatoes and Cherry Tomatoes.

We also have plans to move the garden outside on the patio when the weather starts warming up. It will be out on the patio with outside seating as well.

We will send more pictures in the future to show our progress of the garden and patio seating.
