AMITL at Huron County Medical Care Facility

This month Huron County Medical Care Facility held 3 different food events to celebrate the Meal in the Life of the Asian Pacific. Early in the month we held a food demonstration and talk. We discussed several regions in the Pacific and their food traditions. Japanese Hibachi style steak and fried rice was shared and we even tried our hand at using chopsticks.
Mid-month, the Dining Services and Activities departments held a luncheon. The Polynesian style luau featured: Teriyaki Steak and Chicken with fresh Pineapple Salsa, Coconut Rice, Honey Glazed Carrots, Homemade Hawaiian dinner rolls and Pineapple Upside Down Cupcakes. The residents really enjoyed the meal and many compliments were given over the dinner rolls and pineapple salsa.

Finally we finished our celebrations with our Facility’s “A Meal in the Life” lunch. We featured a Beef Noodle Soup made with authentic cellophane noodles that many residents and staff found to be very interesting. The entrĂ©e choices consisted of Korean BBQ Spareribs or Sweet and Sour Chicken. Sichuan Green Beans, Miso-Orange Roasted Vegetables, Fried Rice, and more of the delicious Hawaiian Dinner Rolls were offered as side dishes. To complete the meal, Grilled Pineapple Fruit Salad and Chinese Donut Bites were the dessert choices.

Each month our residents and staff are enjoying exploring different cultures and getting outside of the usual food routines for these special meals and events. The “A Meal in the Life” program has been very successful at HCMCF!
