Have you ever watched a fly bouncing off a window pane even though there's an open door just a few feet away? Many times the fly keeps crashing into the glass until it finally dies. There are many managers and leaders in today's world doing exactly the same thing. They continue down "today's path" wearing blinders to the possibility of change...until they die.
Keeping change and continuous improvement on the "front burner" is never easy. We are so focused on today's problems that we put off planning for tomorrow's opportunities.
Driving a culture of constant change starts with rewarding innovations, risk-taking and creativity. Don't be afraid of making mistakes or even failing. A little trial and error goes a long way toward staying ahead of the competetion that is just treading water.
Lastly, remember the rule of exercise; the more you do it, the stronger you become.
T.S. Elliot said it best, "Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far to go".
