Smith Village recently implemented a fresh herb garden for their residents to enjoy. The garden was planted by dining services and the gardening club, and it features a variety of fresh herbs including rosemary, chocolate mint, basil, and ginger. The residents at Smith Village are provided small bags, scissors, and hand held gardening tools, which encourages them to come and clip fresh herbs from the garden to utilize on their own, or in their favorite dishes. The Garden is available to all residents and is being taken care of by some staff members, as well as some residents from the gardening club.
In addition to the Fresh Herb Garden, Smith Village hosted a "plant a flower for a resident day" where members of Independent Living worked with dining services to plant fresh potted flowers for the Skilled Care residents. The potted plants were delivered by the dining services team and they were very excited to have the fresh potted flowers to brighten their rooms and cheer up their days. The residents really enjoyed working on the herb garden and the potted plants for their fellow residents to enjoy.
