Spam Appreciation Day

Sanilac Medical Care Facility had a resident choice tasting and fun facts of SPAM.  Fun was had by all who participated and many childhood and adulthood memories shared about spam.

Fun Facts about SPAM

• It was introduced in 1937

• It was a main staple of troops in WWII

• There are only 6 ingredients in spam, Pork shoulder, ham, salt, water, potato starch, sugar, and sodium nitrite, as compared to hotdogs with 10 more ingredients including more chemicals

• 7 billion cans sold annually, and its available in 41 countries, 3.8 cans of spam are consumed every second in the United states

• Spam in made in Austin, Minnesota, where there is a 16,500 sq ft Spam museum

• It is most popular in Hawaii, Waikiki holds an annual Spam Jam festival the last week of April

• Varieties include, Spam Original, Hot & Spicy, Jalapeno, Black Pepper, and Low Sodium
