At Botsford Commons in Farmington Hills Michigan we recently had severe wind storms that left most of the Detroit area without power. The power at Botsford Commons went out Wednesday during lunch and was not restored until Saturday after supper. Nothing in the kitchen was on the generator so we truly were without, power, heat or refrigeration for all the days without power. Thanks to our emergency plan and supplies, we were able to keep the residents feed through it all. The staff did a fantastic job cooperating with the other department to transfer the food up the stairwells to the residents.
Towards the end of the power outage the kitchen was getting a little chilly (in the 40's) but the staff was in high spirits and continued to serve with their coats on. Another highlight for the residents was our ability to adapt and provide the few residents that stayed in Assisted Living with hot food. We served the residents that stayed behind fresh scrambled eggs each morning using our butane burners that we normally use for omelet stations. The residents love that through it all they were well cared for.
Excellent Job Everyone!!!
