At Oakwood Common Retirement in
Dearborn, MI diversity activities capture the attention of the
Clients, Human Resources training staff, and residents. In July we conducted an
activity where we had one of our cooks (Grant Arnold) prepare marinated chicken,
sweet potatoes, Mexican wrap, and pureed chicken. The panel of six contestants
had to do a blind tasting to see who could identify the most items on their
plate. Pureed chicken was added so the staff could better understand what a
resident that was having a swallowing issue would have to eat. We later
explained the need for specialized diets. This was a very important and
educational activity. We will continue monthly activities to enhance our level
of diversity awareness.
