On the 24th we had our montly taste. The theme for October was called "Second
Class Pumpkin" because although pumpkin was used in each dish it was not the
star on the plate. Due to a hectic schedule I was only able to present one
tasting this month so we upped the number of guests from ten to fifteen. All
fifteen places were filled so we were glad to maximize our efforts.
First Bite
The first tasting was paired with some Newcastle Brown blood red
werewolf ale and it was a pumpkin pastry turnover stuffed with pit ham and
cheddar cheese and served over homemade apple-cranberry sauce.
Where The Patch Meets The Maize
The second tasting was a twist on bbq. It was Korean braised pulled short
ribs served over a grilled pumpkin-cornbread pancake and topped with a rice wine
vinegar carrot slaw.
Harvest Sunrise
The third tasting was a pumpkin pasta dough ravioli filled with an egg yolk,
fresh mozzarella, sage and garlic served with brown butter pumpkin sauce and
apple cider cured pork belly that was braised then pan seared.
Where the Patch Meets The Orchard
The fourth tasting was an apple tart served in a puff pastry cup and topped
with homemade pumpkin ice cream.
