Emotions Matter
As managers we like to
say we make rational decisions but in reality we, like everyone else are
driven by emotions. These emotional decisions are attributed to why
only 1/3 of employees are fully engaged at work,
and why others become disengaged and leave the organization. Our
strategies for recruitment and keeping workers engaged have mainly been
focused on practical rewards such as pay increases, bonuses or flexible
hours. In fact we have had it all wrong. The
personal relationships based on feelings have the greatest influences,
causing engaged employees to work effectively, stay with the company,
and act as ambassadors for the organization. How do we capitalize on
this knowledge? It starts with the power of
positive emotions.
