WHC Volunteer Luncheon a huge success with homegrown herbs at its center

The annual volunteer appreciation luncheon at the Western Home Communities was yet another huge success because of Executive Chef Randy Husted and team.  The meal was centered around delicious herbs that are grown right outside the kitchen at Windridge on the south campus of the Western Home.  Many different herbs were used in the meal including, Rosemary, Mint, and Chives.  Husted always strives to provide homegrown and local ingredients when presenting these types of events as it really brings residents, staff, and outside community members back to why the community is so strong in buy fresh buy local cuisine.  One of the highlights of the meal occurred before service began with a mango coconut inspired virgin pina colada.

The drink was so good that guests requested seconds and thirds.  It was the perfect before meal treat and many commented about how much they enjoyed it.

The main course was short ribs baked in a filo dough with a rosemary sprig, and the dessert was a Rhubarb Panna Cotta with blackberry glaze.

The team looks forward to many more events this coming summer that will feature all of these fresh ingredients!
