Once a year, the McLaren Nursing Administration coordinates a skills fair which we were invited to participate in. The Skills Fair included demonstrations from several disciplines within the hospital with focus on key information and resources for the nursing department. Over 300 nurses participated in the skills fair this year. We were given a theme and directive to put together an informative poster board to present. This year our dietitian team (Katy Kulick and Emily Woodcock) focused on carbohydrate counting. The team took pictures of sample trays from our current menu and outlined the carbohydrate content. In addition, they provided some great resources for nurses to use such as a pocket card on carbohydrate counting. Our Chief Nursing Officer was thrilled with the presentation. The poster board will be used to train new staff, existing patient services team, and even out-patient diabetics. We are proud of the value added services from our clinical team!
