Home delivered meal program goes green

The Evangelical Homes of MI Saline and Brecon Campuses have teamed up for the growing green delivery and holiday delivered meal programs through a generous grant from Amcor Rigid Plastic, Inc.  This program is helping to financially support the packaging change for our Meals on Wheels program.  The Meals on Wheels hot lunch and sack supper are produced Monday through Friday at Evangelical Homes Saline except for holidays.  Volunteers from the Saline Senior Center pick up and deliver the meals to the community.  We transitioned from foil and styrofoam containers to biodegradable and recyclable materials.

Along with the packaging transition, this grant also provides holiday meals to seniors in the community who may be alone for the holidays.  We will have volunteers deliver our frozen meals prepared and packaged on site to the seniors to enjoy when they do not get a normal delivery on a holiday.  If they do not have a microwave, one will be provided through the funding.

The program was kicked off with an educational session hosted by Morrison Community Living, Amcor, and Evangelical Homes of MI at the Saline Senior Center to explain the new program to the delivery volunteers.
