On May 1st Chicagoland dietitians from
Morrison Community Living got together to learn, share, and participate in
their annual meeting. The day started
with a lecture on Nutrition Focused Physical Examinations (NFPE), a process in
which dietitians use to assess for malnutrition (under nutrition) by looking
for muscle loss, subcutaneous fat loss, and fluid accumulation. These new skills were then put to good use on
several residents from Smith Crossing.
Next, Davis Knight and Maggie Kilbride lead us through the teaching
kitchen to enhance our culinary and presentation skills. After a fabulous self-made lunch we spent the
afternoon talking about what it is like being a senior in our communities. We participated in a great exercise on
“Empathy vs. Sympathy” by acting out some of the challenges our residents face
each and every day. Overall, the day was
a huge success and provided our dietitians valuable state-of-the-art
information and techniques to share with our teams.
