Dining Services at Huron
County Medical Care Facility presented the art and history of Musicals as part
of the Encore series in August.
Residents were invited
to a Musical themed party where they learned interesting facts and history
about the art of Musicals and Broadway. A game of Musical Bingo was also
played. Residents listened to famous songs from historical Musicals such as
Oklahoma!, My Fair Lady and West Side Story. As they recognized the songs they
would cross them out on their bingo cards. Many in the room recalled the songs
and were surprised that some of these famous songs actually came from Musicals.
While playing bingo, the residents enjoyed a homemade Mermaid Pie which was the
award winning pie from the recent Broadway hit, Waitress and some “Wicked”
punch in honor of the musical with the same name. Bingo prizes were Musical
themed as well, including concession stand-style treats and costume props like
masks, hats and jewelry.
In keeping with the
Musical theme, the featured meal included Russian foods and American Diner
foods in honor of the musicals, “The Great Comet” and “Waitress”. The menu
included Classic Hamburger, Kielbasa with Pierogis, and Apple Pie.
Later in the month the
residents were treated to a performance by a local community theater which
included some of our own staff. The residents enjoyed songs from Joseph and The
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat while munching on rainbow style treats. The
performance definitely had the residents shouting ENCORE!
