Reunion at Oakwood Common
The feeling you get when you make a
resident smile or the satisfied look you see them wearing after an enjoyable
culinary experience is what drives us to continuously make improvements in food
and service. Now imagine walking into a Mother’s Day Tea event to conduct
rounding and having a new resident comment after reading your nametag, “Oh, I
used to teach some children named Berry”. I replied, “You didn’t by chance teach
at Robert Elementary?” She replied, “Yes, I did”. I looked, I mean stared at her
and said, “Mrs. Pretty?” She said, “Yes”. I was shocked beyond belief. Mrs.
Pretty was my kindergarten teacher 55 years ago. I sat at the table with her for
about fifteen minutes reminiscing about school and common acquaintances. Imagine
the feeling I had that day. It was far better than any meal I’ve ever served.
Now, instead of me being the student, I am the teacher. She attends my weekly
Culinary Corner meetings with residents where we sit and chat about food and
food related topics. It is a great feeling having a direct connection with a
resident and I look forward to spending much time with Mrs. Pretty and talking
about the good ole days.
