One of the best events we have at Central Baptist Village is
our Resident Chef of the Day Program.
The event features a family recipe from a resident or their
family being added to our menu rotation, and once they have tasted and approve
the first batch, the dish is named after them.
Additionally, the resident receives a tour of the kitchen, a
chef hat, photo with the Chef and bragging rights that their dish is now part of
our meal offering.
Sometime ago, one of our residents shared with Chef Dave the
desire to bake some bread. So we decided to add baking to the Resident Chef
program.
So here are Elsie and Chef Dave making homemade Focaccia
bread from scratch. As an added benefit they both made the bread as a display
event for the residents in one of our assisted living kitchens. While the dough
was being made, the savory ingredient toppings of salt, fresh garlic and fresh
rosemary were shared with residents. Once the bread was finished, everyone was
offered a sample, and Elsie shared her bread with her tablemates at lunch
service. After being so well received, we are baking again in a month
and making Chocolate Chip Cookies.
