Working
with residents on their walking skills and cardiovascular strength has been a
priority for Wellness Coordinator Amanda Lynch since her start. With walking
groups comes great fun and friendship, but it is always a good thing to switch
it up. With the beautiful weather of summer coming quickly it was high time to
take the walks outside, and what better way than with a scavenger hunt focused
around pirates!
Along
with the WHC activities department, the walk the plank hunt presented itself
this past week! Residents received clues to 3 different places throughout the
downtown campus, and needed to get to those clues via walking. While on the
hunt, discussion was plentiful on pirate trivia, the glory of the beautiful day,
and how good everyone felt once they completed the clues and returned back to
the commons for some refreshments. A sword toss game working on arm strength,
balance, coordination, and sheer competitive nature was so fun for residents.
Lots of laughs were exchanged and everyone seemed to enjoy the change in pace
with walking. A few residents commented that it did not seem far for them to
walk, even though the total was about 1 mile!
It is so
great to see improvement with residents as they strive to better themselves and
create a healthier life.
