On June 18th, the Culinary team at Central Baptist
Village celebrated National Picnic Day… with a twist.
We partnered with our Fitness Department who has been
conducting a summer long “Walk Route 66 “ exercise club, and our Activities
Department who sponsored a 1950’s Sock Hop and we came up with the idea of tying
all these events together into a theme day that included serving a picnic 1950’s
style lunch in classic cars.
The results were amazing and surprising; especially in our
skilled care dining rooms where many of our dementia residents were more active
during meal service asking for cars, playing with them and even taking them back
to their rooms.
The most common feedback we received was that many of our
residents were going to give the cars to their grandchildren.
Very cool ,indeed.
