Before we
set off for our journey around the world last year, we gave Dining Passport cards
to every resident. With each stop, they were stamped with the locations we
visited, including Germany, Paris, Holland, and China. The promise of an
opportunity to win a very special dinner made by the one and only Executive
Chef Brian Brookman excited residents and bolstered participation. Those that
joined us on every leg of the trip would be entered in a drawing to win the
dinner.
Along the
way, we visited a lot of places and had a lot of fun. A particular highlight
was the African Safari, where we saw lions, tigers, and elephants. We also had
a fashion show; Africa was a blast! Another
favorite was Home for the Holiday. Residents prepared and sold homemade pies
for the meal. As we finished up in China
and got back home by the end of September 2014, we had our drawing and twelve
lucky residents secured a seat at the special dinner.
We sent out
invitations to all the winners; the date was set and the table was decorated
with an autumn theme. The residents came
in their best attire.
Chef Brookman
made them an absolutely fabulous dinner – a five course meal. We started with shrimp cocktail followed by
Caesar salad. For the main course , we had Beef Wellington and whole grain
pilaf with butternut squash, cranberry, and apple. And to top everything off, Baked Alaska with
dark rum chockahua sauce.
The
residents’ enthusiasm and gratitude made it all worth it; they offered praise
and thanks for several days. They said,
“We are the luckiest residents that we live at Fulton Manor! You guys are the
best and the food was fabulous.” It was a truly great time had by all!
