While milkshakes and ice cream are generally reserved for
the summer time, IHM wanted shake off the cold and take the residents on a
little trip to Amarillo Texas and some warm weather! For our Route 66 Diner Day’s promotion, we
turned our Motherhouse dining room into Morrison’s Diner. Chef Miguel and his team worked to prepare a
menu from the 1950’s and 1960’s which included BBQ Spare Ribs, Fried Chicken,
Au Gratin Mushrooms, Lima Beans and Sour Cream and Roasted Potatoes. DDS Cathy Campbell and ADDS Holly Wesener
were out in the dining room making homemade milkshakes for all who wanted
one! Our choices ranged from the usual
strawberry made with fresh strawberries, vanilla with real vanilla and
chocolate to the new and different, peanut butter banana milkshake! For those who did not want a milkshake, we
also made hot fudge sundaes topped with whipped cream and a cherry. The sisters at IHM and the staff truly
enjoyed this treat and were lining up even before lunch started to get their
milkshakes before their actual lunch!
Many have asked when we will be doing this again. While we did run into a few hurdles, my
blender broke during the first part while we had a big line up and we did make
quite a mess with chocolate and ice cream, this
was a fun and engaging day full of laughter, jokes and of course Milkshakes!
(In the picture is Sr. Ann Christine from the IHM
Motherhouse who was the first to line up for our milkshakes!)
