Cinco de Mayo at Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital & The Center For Forensic Psychiatry
Cinco de Mayo (commemorating the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War) is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico. However, in the United States, it has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations such is the case in Detroit, Michigan. We celebrate the holiday with a parade in the City and food festivals. For our food "Fiesta" at Walter Reuther & The Center For Forensic Psychiatry, we served Sofrito Spanish Braised Pork, Fresh Sauteed Vegetable Blend, Jicama Lime Salad with a Chipotle Lime dressing and Cinnamon Torta for dessert.
