Tuesday at the Western Home Communities Downtown Campus, employees were put to the test to see how they could improve their safety skills. From food safety, back safety, using a fire extinguisher, to wheelchair safety, 300+ employees were learning information to help them do their jobs more efficiently and safely. Dining Services General Manager Gary McCurdy and Wellness Coordinator Amanda Lynch worked the fair Tuesday to hopefully give some insight into how their areas of expertise can be safer. McCurdy lead up the food safety portion while Lynch handled back safety. These two stations seemed to be a hit with employees who were handed not only information but also chocolate "kisses" to demonstrate food safety and skeletons to remind individuals the importance of taking care of their bodies especially their back when lifting residents or heavy items.
There is
always areas to improve on when it comes to safety, and the Dining Services Team
as well as the Wellness Department strive to create a safe working environment
for all who work within the walls of the Western Home.
