Feeding My Starving Children at Villa St. Benedict

This Saturday, July 20th the culinary team from Villa St. Benedict got together to give back. The idea originated from a team meeting late this spring as a way for the team to get to know each other outside of the kitchen walls. The staff decided to support Feed My Starving Children, a Christian based organization that packs meals and sends them all over the world to aide sick and malnourished children.

Feed My Starving Children does not accept food donations, they buy their own specialty vitamin/mineral mix, dehydrated vegetables, soy and rice to make sure they meet the nutritional needs of the children they are serving. We decided to hold a bake sale to raise funds.  In June, we had a bake sale and over thirty employees contributed homemade baked goods.  We raised over $300 dollars.  The staff decided to give a part of the proceeds to the Villa St. Benedict Foundation which supports residents and staff at VSB.

Armed with our donation, our group headed to Aurora to pack meals. Here are the totals.  Our team packed 35 boxes.  Each box contains 216 meals, so that means we packaged 7,560 meals!  We donated $304 dollars, each meal costs .22 cents.  So our donation allowed the organization to buy 1,382 meals. We had a blast giving back and our looking forward to our next community service activity.
